14 years old I got a Super 8 camera as a present from my parents. Whenever we could afford stock, I served as the DoP for the „feature“- films, that my friends and I produced (silent horror comedy). In 1981 I started out in the business with a one year internship in the camera department of Second German Television ZDF. Ever since graduating from SFOF (Stattliche Fachschule für Optik und Fototechnik), Berlin, I have been working free lance as a 1st AC, then as Steadicam operator and gradually as a DoP. Since 1991 I work out of Hamburg.
Having learned on real celluloid, I was often forced to shoot digital in ever varying formats, though I always fought for film. In 2010 I enjoyed my first shoot with Alexa and after that found it harder to argue for film, especially as Alexa learned SloMo.
In 1995 I had my first close encounter with car shoots, and over the years was specialized less by my choice than coincidence. I like cars well enough but my passion are people. Honestly, I enjoy what I ́m doing, but please note, that not everything I shoot must have wheels.
Having worked on many international sets, I wish my Spanish and French were a lot better, but my English is good enough to communicate with the rest of the world.
