Theresa von Eltz

Theresa grew up in the country near Cologne. She is the third of five children.
After graduating with an MA in History from Oxford University, she studied Fiction Directing at the National Film & Television School in the UK. Her tutors included Stephen Frears and Ken Loach amongst other great British filmmakers.
Theresa quickly developed her very own personal style of filmmaking, based on a subtle and playful camera and getting the most out of the performances of all her characters.

Her first short film Gecko was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in 2007. Since then, her work has included making several reports for German TV (Foyer), where she focused on portraits and documentaries on  European theatre and film. Theresa then focused on her first feature film – 4Könige -. The script was nominated for the Deutscher Drehbuchpreis in 2014.  4Könige was released  in German cinemas in December 2015  and has been awarded several times since then. Among international film festivals in Stockholm and Rome with the German Film Prize in 2016.  Besides Theresa von Eltz received the New Faces Award 2016 for her outstanding directorial debut. During the last year Theresa has shot five episodes of the criminal series “der Kriminalist” and is currently shooting “Tatort Dresden”. She is also working on her next cinema movie.
Theresa lives and works in Berlin, London and Vienna.
